Good points:  Reinforcement and peer support are contributing factors.  Avoidance of punishment by focusing on negative ways of obtaining attention.  Teaching assertiveness skills, and also teach victims to not pay attention to the bully is important

Web

I am glad to learn that you found the site easy to navigate and also that the website information helped you to review what you are you are learning in this class.  I agree with your comments on the weaknesses relating to the visual appeal and the quality of the quizzes.  I agree that handling the punishment issue is delicate! It must be DONE RIGHT!!!!

Article

I entirely agree with you about the limitations of empirical documentation. All of the three limitations mentioned by are right!   You have been a critical reviewer!!!!

Question_2: Running on the treadmill (unconditioned stimulus) is a learned stimulus.

I am pasting below a feedback that I gave to one of the students.  See if this helps.  Only natural responses (salivating, sneezing, withdrawing hand at a hot stimulus) serve as unconditioned examples.  Any natural stimulus (example the fear of the unknown) can serve as an example of an UCS.   Here is an example of classical conditioning:  A mouse is provided with cheese the same time the light is turned on above his cage. In this example, in phase 1 of the conditioning the cheese is the unconditioned stimulus and the mouse's salivation is the unconditioned response. The presentation of the light is the neutral stimulus. In phase 2 of the conditioning, the presentation of the light becomes the conditioned stimulus and the salivation of the mouse becomes the conditioned response.  Another:  A child plays on the swing, falls down and gets hurt.  The child starts crying due to the pain (natural stimulus) and develops fear (natural response) and avoids the swing (a conditioned stimulus of which the child is now scared).  Hope these examples were helpful.  You do need to clarify this concept.  If you need help, call me after 8:30 P.M.

Question_, Question_4 & Question_5:  Good!!!  You got the idea!  Your examples are very practical.   I agree with your comment about the feasibility of using negative punishment as opposed to positive punishment.

Question_8 & Question_10:  keep in mind that Pavlov’s theory has excellent applications.  Test, learning, & math anxieties can be avoided by using Pavlov’s concepts.

Question_12:  I am glad you found the assignment reinforcing. I am sure this will have helped you prepare for the test.  I definitely think that the content of this course will be extremely useful to guidance counselors, teachers, and parents.  Grading of this assignment is extremely time-consuming.  Good ones tale about half an hour.  If there are several mistakes, feedback process takes more than 2 hours in some cases.  However, I still prefer to give this kind of assignment due to the nature of this course.  I also find that this assignment helps me assess the perceptions and misperceptions of students about the course content.
